The Best Timeframe For Hiring A Doula During Pregnancy
I've been asked this question three times in the last week alone, and it has an easy answer. If you are pregnant, you can hire a doula.
Some people hire their doulas early in their pregnancy, and they have the advantage of being able to reserve an early spot in their doulas calendar. Others wait until later in their pregnancy, and may run into problems finding a doula with open space in their calendar.
Hiring a doula at the end of your pregnancy is definitely possible, but may take a little more legwork. Most doulas have a good network with other local doulas, and can direct you to someone with space if they themselves are full.
I've had clients who have called me in their first trimester, and I've been called by new clients and hung up the phone to drive to the hospital for their birth. If I have the availability, I will support you. If I am unable, I will help you find someone who is.
This is what doulas do. We support.
